Classic Afghanistan

The route: Beginning in Kabul, travel to the orchards and rivers of Panjshir, cross the Hindu Kush to Bamiyan, spend a full day at the turquoise lakes of Band-e-Amir, then return via Kabul's Paghman gardens before departure.

  1. Kabul — Arrival and rest. Short orientation walk in the city.
  2. Panjshir — Drive to Panjshir Valley. Visit the river, Darband valley and Ahmad Shah Massoud's memorial. Overnight in Panjshir.
  3. Bamiyan — Cross the Hindu Kush by road to Bamiyan.
  4. Bamiyan — Visit the Buddha niches, the caves, and the local museum.
  5. Band-e-Amir — Full day at Afghanistan's first national park: the six lakes, waterfalls and boating.
  6. Return to Kabul — Drive back to Kabul, then visit Paghman's gardens and hills.
  7. Kabul — Free morning, departure flight.
Extended Afghanistan

The route: All of the 7-day journey, extended with a full day trip from Bamiyan into Sar-e Pol's Redchasht lake, and additional time in Kabul to visit Darul Aman Palace — for travelers who want to go deeper.
